The basics
What is Senior Streamers?
A small box and a simple voice remote that turn any TV with an HDMI input into live TV, a classic TV library, video calls and family messages, all on one menu. It is made for assisted living, memory care and hospice.
Do residents need a smart TV?
No. Any TV with an HDMI input works. On most TVs, Senior Streamers can also turn the TV on and switch to the right input by itself.
Does it need the internet?
Yes. Senior Streamers connects over your community's Wi-Fi, or over a room's Ethernet jack with the small adapter we provide. See Setup & IT for bandwidth planning.
Can residents use it by themselves?
That is the goal. One remote, big buttons, and HOME always goes back to the Main Menu. Residents can also press MIC and say things like "louder" or "call Martha".
Can the TV still be used for other things?
Yes. Senior Streamers uses one HDMI input. The TV's other inputs, like an antenna or a DVD player, still work as before.
Channels and shows
What channels are included?
More than 3,000 free live channels, including CBS News 24/7, NBC News NOW, ABC News Live, Fox Weather, more than 300 local news channels, classic TV, westerns, game shows, faith, cooking, nature and music. See What's On.
Is ESPN or live sports included?
No. Senior Streamers carries free sports channels, but not ESPN, regional sports networks, or live games on the main network channels. Many communities keep one cable or antenna feed in the common room for game days.
Will residents get their local news?
In many markets, yes: there are more than 300 local news channels from stations around the country. Ask us and we'll check your area before you decide.
Are there commercials?
The free live channels carry commercials, like regular TV. No ad breaks are added to the Golden Oldies library or to the resident's own videos.
What is Golden Oldies?
Our on-demand library of 4,485 classic TV series and films, about 42,900 episodes and films in all, sorted by decade from the 1920s on. Many favorite shows have hundreds of episodes.
Are there captions?
Yes, on channels that provide them, in small, medium or large text. Messages from family can also be read aloud.
Calls and family
How do family members join a video call?
They get an invitation by email and text, and join from their phone or computer. Families can also ask for a call from their private link page; the TV rings and the resident answers with one press.
Who can send messages to a resident's TV?
Only people in the resident's Contacts, each with their own private link. Staff can turn anyone's sending off, and replace a link instantly if it is ever shared by mistake.
What if a resident forgets their calling PIN?
We suggest a PIN based on the resident's birthday, so it is easy for them or a caregiver to work out.
Can calls be scheduled?
Yes. The Call Scheduler books recurring calls, like a Sunday family call, so nobody has to remember to dial.
Pricing and setup
How much does it cost?
$40 a room per month, plus a $400 equipment deposit per box that is refunded when the box is returned in good working order. See Pricing.
Is there a contract?
Each room has a 12-month agreement that renews automatically, with no cancellation fee. Satellite plans for senior living often require three years.
Can we add or remove rooms?
Yes, at any time. Each room is its own agreement, so it follows your census.
Can we try it first?
Yes. Try one box in one room free for 30 days, with no commitment, and our customer care team guiding setup. Request a free trial.
Who installs it?
Your staff plug it in, and our customer care team guides them through connecting and personalizing each box. It takes minutes per room.
Can it be used on a common-room TV?
Yes. Activity teams often schedule playlists, like a western night or a 1950s sitcom afternoon, on the common-room TV.
